19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
