Iran Declares It May Rejoin American Atomic Discussions provided that Handled with 'Dignity' and 'Honor'
Tehran is ready to reinitiate nuclear negotiations with Washington on condition that it is treated with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has declared.
Abbas Araghchi said solely negotiations was effective, and disclosed fresh requests had been made by intermediaries to reopen negotiations with the Trump administration. He said Iran had zero secret atomic facilities, and Iran could not yet permit the UN nuclear inspectorate to inspect attacked atomic facilities for protective measures.
Navigating a Complex Path
Araghchi is walking a challenging path since Iran does not want be seen to be proceeding from a situation of disadvantage, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had emerged more powerful militarily and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its nuclear sites in June.
He was addressing at a security conference in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to enrich uranium on home soil that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the stalemate in the prior discussions.
Earlier Discussions Suddenly Terminated
The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, struck Iranian nuclear sites in a two-week conflict that culminated with Donald Trump asserting the sites had been obliterated. Following this, European countries exercised their right to reinstate global restrictions, but Iran insists they have not had a major impact.
Ideal Resolution Proposed
Tehran representatives said they felt they had reached a "magic solution" to the nuclear fuel concern in prior discussions, when it was agreed an domestic cooperative with Washington's engagement could enrich uranium. Both sides would have been able to assert triumph since home-based processing would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's atomic project was solely for peaceful purposes.
It had not been decided in the negotiations that US nuclear scientists could function inside Iran, but that was a logical implication of the cooperative offer. Representatives asserted three times they had reached agreement with Washington's diplomat Steve Witkoff only for the deal to disintegrate due to "spoilers in Washington".
Present Position
Tehran representatives said the cooperative arrangement was now off the table, but it seems very probable the offer could be revived in various formats if negotiations resume.
Trump recently said he had been obtaining communications that Iran wanted to restart talks, but confidentially Iran's diplomats say they are not yet obtaining clear proposals from the United States either explicitly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as Qatar, Egypt, the Omani authorities and the Saudi kingdom. The Iran's state department has been charged of passivity in the face of the US president's straightforward manner, but Iran says diplomacy is not part of a show.
Negotiating Standpoint
In his speech to the gathering, designed to paint the US as a controlling nation that exploits the idea of international law, Araghchi declared the fortnight-long engagement showed the dispute could not be ended by military means. He said the strikes started with a American requirement for an unconditional Iranian surrender and concluded with an unconditional call for a truce.
Iran is certain the opening assaults from Tel Aviv were mounted with complete American awareness and coordination, making confidence challenging to reestablish.
Dialogue Continues the Final Solution
The foreign minister declared: "It was not Iran that had abandoned diplomacy; it was America and the Western nations that had repeatedly sought to impose their will during the talks. Diplomacy can still be active and continues the ultimate solution to address disagreements, but its criteria, guidelines and principles must be respected."
"Provided that they talk to the citizens of Tehran with the tone of respect and honor, they will get a answer in the same approach."
Recovery and Reconstruction
In what is characterized by Iran's diplomats as the conflict of repair and reconstruction, the foreign minister stated he was certain Iran's defence capabilities "have significantly improved than prior to 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been reestablished. We acquired multiple understandings from this engagement; we have identified our own weaknesses and the vulnerabilities of the opponent."
He added: "We successfully passed this conflict. Our enrichment knowledge, which they planned to eliminate, stays intact. The installations and gear, if destroyed, will be restored; what is crucial is the determination of the Iranian people and then the unity of the country that they aimed at, but were unable to break. The Iranian people have developed more powerful, more integrated, and more supportive of the government and the country in the face of this invasion."
