Close to 25,000 Left Without Electricity in Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Severe Weather Systems
Nearly 25,000 households in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday morning after powerful weather events passed over the area, generating strong winds topping over 100 km/h.
Massive Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Damage
Locals witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7 centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews deployed to handle the extensive power failures.
Victorian Storm Challenges
At the same time, around 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after Melbourne recorded its wettest day in over 500 days.
State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 calls for help across the area, mainly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

- The Werribee area - experienced considerable weather impact
- Hoppers Crossing suburb - various rescue reports
- Wyndham - over 175 help reports
At one point on the previous day, over 28,000 energy customers in the state were without power.
Weather Forecast
Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along much of eastern Queensland this next several days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coast.
The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with continued thunderstorm potential expected across multiple regions of both states.
Health Warning
Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
This alert comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the region.
